Well hello summer heat! Even if you did take your sweet time arrive, my hair was aware of your presence the moment you arrived. And then my fine, natural tresses started taking new shapes. You know what I mean… they started poufing at the root, plumping up and threatening to frizz at any moment. That’s my signal to go back to the curl. So while I won’t be totally wash ‘n go  I will be letting my tresses air dry at least sometimes. And that means I am going to have to be inventive about avoiding shrinkage. Is there such a thing as a carefree natural curl? Well I am in search of this elusive feeling. Most of the time, however,  I would fit squarely in the hit and miss category. Yes, I know beauty but my hair seriously takes on a life of its own (and I am sure yours does too).

I have tried drenching my fine hair with product, the banding techniques, diffusing, blowdrying, twisting, rod sets and a combination of some of the techniques to varying degrees of success. I have also concocted some awesome curly cocktails that work for a while and then suddenly don’t. So in January I took a hiatus from my curls. I asked my stylist to cut a few inches off so I wouldn’t be tempted. But the heat has ushered in my return to the curl. I think it’s time, I have started admiring the curls around me again and I want in on it again.

And this weekend I will be doing just that by joining The Kinky Collaborative and CurlKit for The Natural Hair Stars event. It’s Saturday 6/29 at the People Lounge in NYC from 5-9 PM. Come check me out I will be there all natural and proud. For more info, check out http://naturalhairstars.eventbrite.com/.
